The Golowan Band

Click here for a full gig and event list for the Golowan band in 2008.

At the heart of the festival is The Golowan Band, unmistakable in white and the blue, gold and black sash, the colours of Golowan. The band numbers some thirty musicians with a range of instruments greater than any band in Cornwall. Fiddles, flutes, melodeons, accordions, pipes, brass, drums and whistles, and at the front the man with a stick, the incomparable Roger White.

On Mazey Day the band can be seen in pride of place leading the colourful processions as they make their way through the main streets of the town. They play for the Serpent Dances on their tortuous, lively and unpredictable journey through back ways and alleyways.

The band takes an increasingly important part in the ceremonial life of the town, leading processions at the Montol Festival, Gorseth Kernow and St Piran's Day.
